What The Program Offers
Our program offers the following benefits:
Our curriculum focuses on the discipline of Information Design --
the authoring of online and offline information products. More and
more, people working in this discipline, are discovering the value
of having a combination of writing, design, human factors and technology
skills. Being multi-skilled increases their marketability and job
security. To that end, we offer a series of courses in technical
writing, XML authoring, online help systems design, web-based course
design, graphic design, user interface analysis, user interface
design, and usability testing.
Our courses were developed with university-level education in mind.
Our technical writing and XML authoring courses have been taught
for credit at the University of Waterloo. Portions of our human
factors and graphic design courses have been taught for credit at
Carleton University. And our help system design course has been
compared to university courses at a well-known
university in Boston. The courses combine extensive readings,
practical hand-marked assignments and interactive quizzes with instructor
mentoring via email, audio or text chat and discussion board. All
of the courses were developed under the guidance of academic and
industry experts such as Ken Holman, Paul Beam and William Horton.
Our courses are designed for people who need to know the materials
when they are done. Because the skills we teach are largely subjective
in nature, the course delivery model combines self-paced readings
and practical hand-marked assignments with instructor mentoring
via email, chat group and discussion boards. For the most part,
multiple-choice server marked questionnaires and posted answers,
simply cannot provide students with the practice or personal feedback
that they need to really learn these skills. As a result, the delivery
model generates lower drop-out rates and higher satisfaction rates
than many other online institutions.
Our Educational Affiliate System was designed with you in mind.
Once your account is set up, our interface puts you in control.
You can manage as much, or as little, of the course administration
process as you like. Features include tracking automatic registrations,
adding or dropping students, managing collect of payments, tracking
student status, adding or dropping courses, and managing student
completion and certification.
We provide you with linkages to your own personal website. You can
decide which courses you want to offer and customize the website
so that it matches with your university website.
There is no up front cost or financial risk associated with becoming
an Educational Affiliate.
